Macrina Venerable

July 19

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 19 of July, repeating indefinitely

Our venerable mother, Macrina, sister of St. Basil, at an early age, in the reign of Emperor Gratianus, consecrated herself to the service of God.  She helped to educate her brothers, was instrumental in founding several Religious Houses, and presided as Hugumena-Abbess over one of these.  She died in the same year as her brother St. Basil the Great, A.D. 379 and was buried in the grave of her mother, St. Emelia in the church of the Forty Martyrs in Caesarea.

Our venerable father, Dius, flourished during the reign of Theodosius the Great, Emperor.
