Theophany of Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ

One of the oldest feasts in the East, it has been traced back to the beginning of the 2nd century. The Western Rite Church accepted this great Feast Day from the Eastern Rite Church in the 3rd century.

Venerable Theophan

Our venerable father and confessor, Theophan of Syngria, was banished by the Emperor Leo the Armenian for his stand against the Iconcolasts at the Second Council of Nicea A.D. 787. Died in exile A.D. 818, bound and starved to death.

Gregory the Great

Our holy father, Gregory the Great, Dialogus, Pope of Rome, who probably composed the Liturgy of Presanctified for the Church of the Eastern Rites. He died A.D. 604 in the reign of Emperor Phocas.

SS. Akindynos, Pegasius, Aphdonius, Elpidephorus, and Anempodistus, Martyrs, suffered martyrdom for the Faith in Persia under King Sapor II about A.D. 345.
